How sunlight may prevent Multiple Sclerosis MS
Spending more time exposed to natural daylight may reduce the likelihood of developing Multiple Sclerosis MS in later life, a disease forwhich there is no known cure.
Three times more women are affected than men.
Scientists in California studied 70 pairs of twins one of whom had MS and the other not.
When they analysed their childhood exposure to the suns rays they found that those who spent more time outdoors were up to 40% less likely to develop the incurable condition in later life.
The findings published in the Journal of Neurology support earlier evidence that sunshine may help prevent the wasting disease.
It remains unclear how the suns rays might work but one theory is that they help keep the immune system in check possibly by stimulating production of Vitamin D.

Seasonal Affective Disorder? Try some light therapy.
Is it any wonder with autumn and winter approaching with days getting shorter and the nights longer we can feel as grey and gloomy as the weather outside?
We feel starved of natural daylight and craving for bright sun. In fact often during winter as we wake up when its dark, travel to work when its dark, sit in an artificially lit office all day and return home when its dark we may never see the light of day!
We can feel irritable, sluggish, moody, lethargic, unable to concentrate and many can also feel acutely depressed.
